Geoff and his wife Linda are councillors for Nethermayne Ward, Basildon Borough Council. First elected in Nethermayne Ward in 1981, Geoff has served continuously since 1986, leading the Liberal Democrat group on the council for most of that time. Locally he has been closely involved with campaigns to protect green spaces from development, specifically Basildon Golf Course and land North of Dry Street, known now as the ‘Nethermayne Site’.

Geoff is a linguist by profession, having obtained B.A. Hons in German and French and an M.Phil in German from the University of London. He taught for more than 25 years in further, higher and adult education in Essex and in Germany. Geoff is a trustee for a number of community organisations and in what free time he has enjoys music, reading and gardening.
